English language in Japan

Welcome! Thank you for participating in my survey to English proficiency in Japan. The goal of my paper is to find out how history, education and culture influence the acquisition of the English language in Japan. 

That's where I want to ask people living in Japan, how they assess their own English skills and if there is even a need to speak English.

I study English and Musics in Germany to become a high school teacher. Part of my studies is to write papers on various linguistic topics. I've been to the World Expo2025 in Osaka as part of a choir project and decided to read up on foreign language acquisition in Japan and have been since interested into how the English language is perceived and used on a day-to-day basis in the country.

Please feel free to share this survey with colleagues, friends and family. The larger the data base, the more conclusions I can draw plus further points of research.
